Longing for the Return of Mysterious Starbucks Items

In a recent announcement, newly appointed CEO Brian Niccol revealed significant changes to the Starbucks lineup, including a plan to reduce the menu by a substantial 30%. As we eagerly anticipate which of our beloved lattes and mochas will be removed, we can’t help but reminisce about the nostalgic drinks and snacks that have vanished over the years. Here are nine discontinued Starbucks menu items that are dearly missed:

1. Oleato Caffé Latte With Oat Milk: Introduced briefly in early 2024, this drink, along with the Oleato Golden Foam Iced Shaken Espresso With Toffee Nut, quietly disappeared later that year due to lackluster customer interest.

2. Salted Caramel Mocha: Despite its fall release, the Salted Caramel Mocha couldn’t compete with the Pumpkin Spice Latte and was removed from menus in 2021.

3. Dark Cherry Mocha: Starbucks launched and swiftly discontinued the Dark Cherry Mocha post-Valentine’s Day, leaving fans longing for its return.

4. Gingerbread Latte: A holiday favorite for almost two decades, the Gingerbread Latte was discontinued in 2019, making a brief comeback in 2023 but has since disappeared again.

5. S’mores Frappuccino: The beloved S’mores Frappuccino quietly exited menus in summer 2018, leaving fans craving its unique blend of coffee, chocolate, marshmallow, and cream.

6. Oprah Chai: A drink created in partnership with Oprah Winfrey, the Oprah Chai, featuring a black tea blend with cinnamon and spices, left Starbucks menus over a decade ago.

7. Raspberry Mocha: Starbucks removed its Raspberry syrup, leading to the demise of the popular Raspberry Mocha, much to the disappointment of loyal customers.

8. Birthday Cake Frappuccino: A fun and festive offering, the Birthday Cake Frappuccino was discontinued in 2016 but remains a fond memory for many.

9. Eggnog Latte: Despite being phased out, the Eggnog Latte failed to attract sufficient orders, according to Starbucks employees on Reddit.

These discontinued items continue to hold a special place in the hearts of Starbucks enthusiasts, who eagerly await their potential return to the menu.

I personally adored the seasonal drink, but it wasn’t a crowd favorite. It was quite a hassle to prepare, the eggnog was on the pricier side, and it consumed precious storage in their compact dairy refrigerators. The only thing I have to say is: Brian Niccol, you better not even think about changing my Pistachio Latte.
