Lexi Thompson Masters Windy Round with Top and Shank!

In blustery conditions during the third round of the KMPG Women’s PGA Championship, Lexi Thompson struggled right from the start in Frisco, Texas. After a challenging tee shot on the opening hole, a par-5 playing at 517 yards with wind gusts up to 30 mph, Thompson faced a triple bogey due to a mishit and a shank. She managed a drive into the fairway but then faltered with her next shots. Thompson mentioned that the strong winds threw off her balance, leading to some errant shots. Unfortunately, her troubles continued as she found herself in a difficult native area and incurred a penalty stroke. Despite a valiant effort, she ended up with a two-putt from 20 feet and a subsequent bogey on the following hole.

Thompson, who has scaled back her playing schedule, was aiming to build on her strong performance in the tournament after an impressive 2-under 70 in the previous round. As she headed into the third round in fourth place, she trailed Jeeno Thitikul by four strokes. Notably, Thompson has amassed an impressive record in majors, with 13 top-five finishes since 2013, the most among current players, alongside 20 top-10 finishes in these prestigious events.
