Legendary Producer Stanley R. Jaffe’s Untold Legacy Revealed at 84!

Stanley R. Jaffe, a renowned producer who earned an Oscar for his work on “Kramer vs. Kramer” in 1980, passed away at the age of 84 in Rancho Mirage on Monday. He had a successful career in the film industry, holding key positions at various studios.

The son of Columbia Pictures executive Leo Jaffe, Stanley Jaffe was also involved in the production of well-known films like “Fatal Attraction,” “The Accused,” “Goodbye, Columbus,” and “The Bad News Bears.” He worked on notable projects in the 1980s such as “Taps,” “Racing With the Moon,” and “Black Rain.”

During his partnership with Sherry Lansing at Jaffe-Lansing Productions, he received an Oscar nomination for “Fatal Attraction” in 1987. Jaffe began his career in New York at Seven Arts Associates before joining CBS and later moving on to Paramount, where he produced the acclaimed film adaptation of Philip Roth’s “Goodbye, Columbus.”

After a brief tenure as president of Paramount, Jaffe transitioned back to independent production, achieving success with “Kramer vs. Kramer,” which won five Oscars. He collaborated with Lansing for a period before returning to Paramount as chairman of Paramount Communications.

Stanley Jaffe is survived by his wife Melinda, children Bobby, Betsy, Alex, and Kate, five grandchildren, a sister, and a brother. His sister, publicist Andrea Jaffe, passed away in 2016.
