Lauren Sánchez embarked on a spaceflight aboard a Blue Origin rocket on Monday morning, marking the first all-female crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s historic spaceflight in 1963. Sánchez expressed pride in her fellow crew members for their bravery.
Jeff Bezos’ fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, made history by joining the first all-female crew of the 21st century to venture towards space. The last time such a feat was accomplished was in 1963 when cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman in space.
Katy Perry, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn accompanied Sánchez on the spaceflight. Sánchez described the experience as one of joy, camaraderie, and gratefulness.
After returning to Earth, Sánchez reflected on the feeling of unity and connection she experienced while looking out of the rocket’s windows during moments of weightlessness.
The New Shepard rocket, named after NASA astronaut Alan Shepard, lifted off with its six female passengers, reaching the Kármán line, the boundary between space and Earth.
Sánchez highlighted the significance of the crew’s journey into the unknown, praising their courage.
Blue Origin, founded by Bezos in 2000, aims to move heavy industries into space to reduce pollution on Earth, with the vision of eventually enabling a trillion people to live and work in space.
