In Moscow, the Kremlin took an extended period to clarify the weapons that the United States is supplying and will supply to Ukraine following President Donald Trump’s declaration that Washington would need to dispatch additional arms to Kyiv. Trump emphasized that the United States would be sending more weapons to Ukraine, particularly defensive ones, to assist the war-torn country in fending off escalating Russian advancements. When questioned about Trump’s statements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out the numerous conflicting reports regarding U.S. weapons supplies to Ukraine, although it was evident that European weapons shipments were still ongoing.
“Manifestly, supplies are ongoing, that’s crystal clear. Manifestly, the Europeans are actively engaged in saturating Ukraine with weapons,” Peskov articulated. “Regarding the type and quantity of supplies Ukraine continues to obtain from the United States, it will, without a doubt, require further time to definitively establish this,” he further remarked. Russia, which is making headway at various frontlines, currently holds just under a fifth of Ukrainian territory, encompassing Crimea, all of Luhansk, the lion’s share of three other regions, and slivers of three more regions.
Peskov underscored that Moscow valued Trump’s endeavors to instigate direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting substantial potential for rekindling Russian-U.S. trade and economic relations. “Nonetheless, at present, the United States is enforcing numerous restrictions. We are of the opinion that these sanctions are unlawful and they are detrimental not only to our entrepreneurs but also to those of the United States,” Peskov asserted.
