Jordan Chiles introduced an impressive new floor routine during the season opener for UCLA Gymnastics. The 23-year-old Olympic gold medalist showcased her skills alongside her Bruins teammates at the American Gold Women’s Collegiate Classic, which featured competitions against No. 19 Oregon State and No. 4 California on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Set to the iconic track “Let’s Go Crazy” by Prince, Chiles’ routine paid homage to the legendary musician with playful air guitar moves and a dazzling purple leotard. The audience erupted with excitement as Chiles flawlessly executed each landing. Upon finishing her routine, Chiles celebrated with her teammates and embraced her coach, Janelle McDonald.
Despite Chiles’ stellar performance, UCLA concluded the meet with a score of 195.250, landing in last place. The crowd was captivated by Jordan Chiles’ dynamic new floor routine set to the music of Prince.
Twitter users expressed their admiration for Chiles’ routine, with one commenting, “loooove the guitar moves, she’s bringing back artistry to gymnastics as she SHOULDDD,” while another shared, “That was incredible and super fun to watch!!”
In addition to her standout floor routine, Chiles competed in three events for UCLA at the meet: floor, vault, and bars. Standing out among her peers, Chiles was the sole gymnast from UCLA to achieve two 9.900 scores, which she earned on bars and vault, as reported by Forbes.
Chiles also unveiled a challenging tucked vault routine, earning a score of 9.90 on Saturday. The event not only showcased her skills but also marked a reunion with her Olympic teammate Jade Carey, who competes for Oregon State. Carey, a 24-year-old gymnast, clinched gold alongside Chiles, Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera in the women’s gymnastics team final at the Paris Olympics last July.
Looking ahead, Chiles announced plans to release her memoir titled “I’m That Girl” in spring 2025. The book will provide insights into her Olympic journey, shedding light on the controversial decision by the International Olympic Committee to strip Chiles of the bronze medal she initially won during the floor final on Aug. 5. Simone Biles, a fellow gymnastics star aged 27, penned the foreword for Chiles’ memoir.
Despite the challenges she faced, Chiles views her memoir as a tribute to resilience and the power of perseverance. The anticipated release of “I’m That Girl” is set to offer readers a deeper understanding of Jordan Chiles’ journey and experiences in the world of gymnastics.
