FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have conducted interviews with two prominent candidates for key leadership positions within the organization. Ron Rivera, the former head coach of the Washington Football Team and the Carolina Panthers, met with the Jets on Thursday to discuss the head coaching vacancy. Additionally, Louis Riddick, a respected ESPN analyst and former NFL safety, interviewed for the general manager position.
Rivera, who has a notable coaching career that includes playoff appearances with both Washington and Carolina, went 26-40-1 during his tenure with the Washington Football Team before being released in January following a challenging season. With a career record of 102-103-2, Rivera has demonstrated his ability to lead teams to postseason success, including a Super Bowl appearance with the Panthers in the 2015 season.
Known for his bold decision-making and strategic acumen, Rivera is the only coach in NFL history to guide teams with losing records to multiple playoff berths. His experience and track record make him a compelling candidate for the Jets’ head coaching role.
On the general manager front, the Jets also interviewed Louis Riddick, who has an extensive background in front office operations with Washington and Philadelphia. Riddick, who currently serves as an ESPN analyst and brings a wealth of football knowledge to the table, is among the leading contenders for the GM position.
The Jets, who recently parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh, are actively seeking to fill key leadership roles within the organization. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has been at the helm since Saleh’s departure, guiding the team to a 2-9 record thus far.
In addition to Rivera and Riddick, other notable figures in the football world are reportedly in talks with the Jets. Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan is expected to interview for a potential return to the franchise. The team is also exploring options for the vacant general manager position, having interviewed candidates such as Jim Nagy, Thomas Dimitroff, and Jon Robinson.
As the Jets navigate the process of rebuilding and reshaping their leadership structure, the interviews with Rivera and Riddick mark significant steps in the team’s pursuit of excellence. With a rich history and a passionate fan base, the Jets are committed to finding the right individuals to lead them into a new era of success.
