CNN anchor Jake Tapper, Piers Morgan and former President Joe Biden have been caught up in a scandal concerning attempts to hide Biden’s deteriorating mental health.
Tapper is the co-author of the book Original Sin, which explores how the Democrats attempted to conceal Biden’s health issues during his 2024 re-election campaign. Morgan questioned Tapper about his comparison of the cover-up to the Watergate scandal. Tapper argued that, although it is a scandal, he believes it is distinct from Watergate and could be considered worse in some respects. He acknowledged past criticism for not reporting sufficiently on Biden’s health concerns, expressing humility and a desire for improved coverage. The book, written by Tapper and co-author Alex Thompson, sheds light on Biden’s health struggles during his presidency, including incidents where he failed to recognise prominent figures, and attempts to prevent him from falling in public.
This followed his disastrous debate performance against Donald Trump in June 2024.
