Jaime King is sharing her feelings for the first time about the “frightening” loss of custody of her two sons to ex-husband Kyle Newman. In a recent custody order filed in Los Angeles and obtained by USA TODAY, the “White Chicks” actress’ ex-husband and “Fanboys” director was granted sole physical custody of their two children. During a discussion on “White Down with Jana Kramer,” King spoke openly about her role as a mother to protect her children and how this situation is unsettling for her. Despite losing physical custody, King retains legal custody of the children – James, 11, and Leo, 9 – alongside Newman.
The actress revealed that she may only have supervised visitation with the children due to not completing a required drug and alcohol program. King expressed her surprise at the legal process and emphasized the importance of love and trust in building a family. She shared that the situation is distressing and that she refrains from discussing it to ensure her children do not feel at fault.
King and Newman, who married in 2007 and separated in 2020, have been navigating the legal proceedings, with King likening it to politics and urging honesty and kindness. Following their divorce in May 2020, King sought joint physical and legal custody, as well as spousal support. The current arrangement stipulates that the children will reside with Newman, while King is permitted supervised visitation two to three times a week.
