The mummy, called 'María' in Peru, is a "mummified alien" who has been buried in southern Peru for thousands of years, according to UFO researchers.

María is described as a chalk-white humanoid with an egg-shaped head, long three-fingered hands and three-toed feet.

But scientists, government officials and archaeologists believe that María was probably an ordinary human mummy and could have been recognized as such because when she was discovered she was covered in diatomaceous earth, a dust-like substance made up of the fossilized remains of plankton.

"María's fingerprints are not consistent with traditional human fingerprint patterns," said former Colorado prosecutor Joshua McDowell.

Emphasizing that these strange fingerprints are not conclusive evidence that María was an interplanetary being, McDowell said, "Maybe it has something to do with the way her skin is protected."

"This is a completely fabricated story," Flavio Estrada, an archaeologist from Peru's Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Sciences, told a press conference.

The study of Maria is still ongoing.
