Iranian state media reported on Thursday that Iran has responded to a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to the Iranian supreme leader regarding Tehran’s nuclear program. The Iranian reply was conveyed through Oman, according to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Details of both the Iranian response and Trump’s letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have not been disclosed. The Trump administration had imposed new sanctions on Iran as part of its “maximum pressure” strategy at the time of the exchange. Araghchi stated that Iran’s stance remains against direct negotiations under pressure and threats, but indirect talks could be considered. The letter from Trump was delivered to Iranian officials by Anwar Gargash, a senior Emirati diplomat, during his visit to Tehran on March 12, 2025. Trump has expressed interest in initiating discussions on Iran’s nuclear activities, indicating the possibility of military action while also remaining open to a new agreement.
