In a recent announcement on Wednesday, the Mondelēz-owned brand revealed the launch of a brand-new flavor: Hot Honey. According to the brand, this new flavor is tailor-made for those who enjoy a combination of sweetness and spiciness, affectionately referred to as “swicy”.
Steven Saenen, the vice president of marketing at Ritz, expressed, “We are constantly seeking innovative ways to surprise and delight our loyal fans, and Hot Honey presents a bold and delicious flavor profile. The unique blend of sweet and heat in this product brings a fresh twist to our traditional cracker, and we are eager for people to experience it.”
The Hot Honey crackers maintain the beloved flaky texture that Ritz fans have come to expect, but now with the exciting addition of a hot honey flavor for an extra kick. This new release joins a lineup of recent flavor introductions by Ritz, including the Spicy Queso variety in the Ritz Bits range, marking the first new flavor in nearly a decade. These cracker sandwiches promise a savory and flavorful taste suitable for any occasion.
Saenen further explained, “With Spicy Queso, we are responding to consumers’ desire for adventurous and bold flavors, elevating the enjoyment of the classic Ritz Bits with a spicy twist in every bite.” Additionally, in early 2024, Ritz unveiled the Sweet Habañero flavor and Honey BBQ flavor in the Ritz Toasted Chips line, each offering distinct sweet and spicy profiles.
By embracing the “swicy” trend, Ritz is tapping into a growing demand among consumers for heat-infused culinary experiences. According to a March 2024 flavor study by Daymon, there is a significant interest among shoppers in exploring new spicy options, especially younger generations. Gen Z and Millennials are leading the charge, with 61% and 55% respectively reporting a preference for spicy foods. Notably, 53% of Gen Z participants indicated an affinity for “swicy” heat, suggesting a promising market segment for such innovative flavors.
For those eager to sample the new Ritz Hot Honey crackers, a 13.7-ounce box is now available at major food retailers nationwide. Ritz hints at the possibility of more flavor innovations in 2025, encouraging enthusiasts to stay tuned for exciting developments.
