A journalist working for the far-right conspiracy theory news website Infowars was shot and killed on Sunday night in Austin, Texas, as confirmed by the police. Jamie White, 36, was fatally shot while trying to intervene with two or more suspects who were breaking into his vehicle outside his apartment, according to a news release from the Austin police. White received immediate treatment at the scene and was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.
Initially, the Austin Police Department did not disclose White’s identity as the victim of the suspected homicide when the incident was first reported early Monday. However, Alex Jones, the founder of Infowars, quickly identified the deceased as one of his reporters, stating on the website that White was “brutally murdered.” In a statement on its website, Infowars described White as a unique individual who brought dedication to everything he did, expressing gratitude for his contributions.
The shooting took place around 11:56 p.m. on Sunday in a residential area of south Austin, according to police reports. Leah Ratliff, a police spokesperson, mentioned that officers discovered an injured man with evident signs of trauma at the scene. The man, later identified as White, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. Homicide detectives concluded that White was shot by at least two suspects while attempting to thwart a potential burglary of his vehicle.
