Teen arrested following chilling plot, linked to mass shooting obsession
A recent case emerged when the FBI’s Sandy Hook Promise Say Something Anonymous Reporting System alerted local authorities about a tip regarding a teenager’s plans for an attack. The tipster revealed that their friend, known as “Jamie,” a transgender senior in high school, had expressed intentions reminiscent of the Parkland school shooting. Allegedly obsessed with Nikolas Cruz, the teenager reportedly had photos of Cruz, along with other notorious killers, displayed in her room. The tip described “Jamie” as having access to an AR-15 rifle and a bulletproof vest, with disturbing messages and illustrations hinting at violent intentions found in her possessions.
Further investigation uncovered a troubled past, with records showing that the teenager had sought mental health counseling and harbored dark thoughts of self-harm and harming others. While the teenager claimed that the plans were a joke and denied having access to a gun, social media posts indicated otherwise, with photos of firearms and concerning messages discovered.
Following the arrest, the school district announced that the teenager would not be returning to school. Details also revealed the teenager’s struggle with mental health, with indications that previous cries for help were not adequately addressed by her father. The case serves as a chilling reminder of the importance of vigilant reporting and mental health support for at-risk individuals.
“It was [the school’s] understanding that Mr. Shockley did not believe in mental health treatment and did not take his daughter’s conditions seriously,” McDaniel said in the probable cause filing. He explained that when Trinity turned 18 last November, she signed up for treatment on her own. In a screen grab from Google Maps Street View, Mooresville High School can be seen in Mooresville, Indiana. Shockley mentioned to investigators that she was bullied after a drunk driver struck her in 2022 while she was waiting for the school bus, according to the documents. This unfortunate incident left her with a fractured femur, fractured arm, sprained ACL, two brain contusions, and a web compression fracture. In response, the school community came together, raising over $12,000 for her recovery. Trinity’s aunt, Angela Altmeyer, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “They’ve been really responsive. They’ve been wanting to send cards and whatever they can do.” ABC News attempted to contact Trinity Shockley’s father, Tim Shockley, and other family members for a comment, but no court date has been set.
