WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that India and Pakistan, nuclear-armed rivals, have agreed to a ceasefire following U.S.-led talks aimed at resolving their escalating military confrontation. “After lengthy discussions facilitated by the United States, I am delighted to announce that both countries have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to India and Pakistan for demonstrating common sense and intelligence,” Trump wrote. The ceasefire, effective immediately, was also confirmed by Pakistan’s foreign minister and India’s foreign ministry. The agreement comes after weeks of military clashes spurred by a deadly attack that India attributed to Pakistan. Prior to the ceasefire announcement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a key role in mediating conversations between the two nations. Rubio’s efforts culminated in the agreement for a ceasefire and talks on various issues at a neutral location. Vice President JD Vance also participated in the diplomatic efforts, expressing gratitude to the leaders of India and Pakistan for their cooperation.
