Title: Concerns Arise Over Detention of US Citizen During Immigration Enforcement Operation
Jensy Machado, a naturalized Virginia resident, expressed doubts about his support for President Donald Trump after being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents while they were searching for another individual with a deportation order. Machado, a U.S. citizen, was driving to work with two other men when he was stopped near his home by ICE agents in Virginia.
Machado shared that the agents approached his vehicle with guns drawn, instructing him to turn off the car, hand over the keys, and roll down the window. Despite providing documentation of his legal status as a U.S. citizen, Machado was initially detained and handcuffed by the agents. He explained that they mentioned a name associated with a deportation order linked to his home address, which he denied knowing.
After affirming his citizenship and displaying his Virginia driver’s license, Machado was released, while the two men accompanying him were taken into custody. This incident prompted Machado to question the immigration enforcement approach under the Trump administration, as he believed it unfairly targeted Hispanic individuals.
Immigration lawyers recommend that residents and citizens always carry identification with them. Both News4 and Telemundo 44 have reached out to ICE for comment on the situation.
