According to the Washington State Patrol, on Saturday a military Humvee towing a trailer veered off Interstate 90 in Bellevue, Washington. The vehicle crossed a grassy shoulder, went over a retaining wall, and landed on Southeast 38th St. below. The incident occurred on eastbound I-90 near the Eastgate neighborhood, where the Humvee drifted to the right for unknown reasons.
Trooper Rick Johnson stated, “This Humvee Tonic Trailer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 and drifted right for some reason.” He explained that the vehicle left the freeway, traversed a grassy area, and descended around 30 feet onto the street below.
Two individuals in the military vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which took place as the Humvee was part of a convoy heading to the Yakima Training Center in central Washington.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Photos shared by Johnson depict the aftermath of the incident, showing the significant drop from the freeway to the street below. At this time, there is no available video footage of the crash, and no dashcam recordings have been submitted to the agency.
