High school heroes save man on train tracks!

Three high school seniors in Ottumwa, Iowa, are being commended for their exceptional actions. Clinton Ring, Paul Clanry, and Daveson Hartman, students at Gateway High School, sprang into action when they saw a man in need near the school’s train tracks. Without hesitation, the trio rushed to assist the man, embodying selflessness and courage.

This act of heroism took place in a small Iowa town with a population of around 25,000 residents, known for being the birthplace of actor Tom Arnold and a destination for presidential visits. The students’ quick response drew praise from their science teacher, Matt Erlandson, who witnessed their compassionate deeds firsthand.

Gateway High School, where the students attend, is an alternative high school that caters to students with various needs, focusing on providing support and opportunities for growth. The principal, Aaron Ruff, emphasized the school’s commitment to seeing students for their potential and not defining them by past challenges.

The students hope that their actions will help break stereotypes associated with alternative schools, demonstrating that they are capable of remarkable acts of kindness. When asked about the lesson to be learned from their actions, Clanry encouraged others to be compassionate, while Ring emphasized the importance of not judging others based on appearances.

Though the teens never crossed paths with the man they assisted again, their shared experience has strengthened their bond as friends. Hartman expressed gratitude for his friends’ kindness and support, highlighting the positive impact they have had not only on him but also on others in need.
