Director Chris Columbus revealed that John Candy, who spent just one day on the set of Home Alone, improvised all of his lines.

"WE COULD HARDLY STOP OURSELVES FROM LAUGHING"

Speaking to 'Insider', Chris Columbus said, "None of this was in the script. We were shooting at 4:30 in the morning and it was all improvised. We were listening to John on set and it was hard not to laugh."

It turned out that John Candy, who died of a heart attack in 1994, did not receive a large payment for this role. Director Columbus stated that John Candy did it as a favor to John Hughes, the producer and screenwriter of the film.

HE EARNED 414 DOLLARS

It was announced that John Candy earned 414 dollars for this role. 414 dollars in 1990 is equivalent to 952 dollars today.
