“Egg Rationing Triggers Panic in Grocery Stores”
In the midst of escalating concerns over egg shortages, the White House once again found itself under fire from Democrats urging President Donald Trump to make good on his pledge to promptly slash grocery prices. The Congressional Dads Caucus penned a letter to Trump on Thursday, admonishing his lack of action in addressing the soaring costs of essential food items. The group expressed dismay over the impact of the recent executive measures which they believe have hindered the government’s ability to effectively tackle the root causes of the crisis. Notably, eggs have emerged as a critical commodity for families in their constituencies, and the lawmakers emphasized the urgent need to alleviate the financial strain inflicted by the surging prices.
According to Tony Hernandez, spokesperson for Rep. Jimmy Gomez of California, in certain parts of New York, the price of a dozen eggs has skyrocketed to over $8 in select stores. In response to the scathing remarks from congressional Democrats, a White House representative, Anna Kelly, attributed the egg shortage to the “slow and inadequate response of the Biden Administration to the bird flu epidemic that originated in 2022.” Kelly defended Trump’s commitment to fulfilling his mandate from the American people to combat rising costs, asserting that the administration is actively working towards that goal.
Trump and Brooke Rollins, the nominee for the position of Agriculture Department chief, are set to refocus the efforts of the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) to prioritize safeguarding the health of the nation’s flora and fauna, as well as its environmental resources. Meanwhile, in New York City, some corner stores have resorted to selling eggs individually due to the exorbitant prices that make purchasing a dozen unaffordable for many customers. Fernando Rodriguez, owner of Pamela’s Green Deli in The Bronx, explained that customers unable to bear the high cost of a full dozen eggs now opt to buy them individually, a practice necessitated by the prevailing economic constraints in the city.
