Grizzlies’ Zach Edey’s Shocking 101 mph Kia Ride Charges!

LAFAYETTE, IN — Authorities stopped Zach Edey, a former Purdue basketball star, on May 1 for driving at 101 mph in a 55 mph zone on Indiana 25 in southern Tippecanoe County. Edey’s Kia Sorento was traveling northbound and passed a southbound Indiana State Police trooper’s vehicle at 7:03 p.m., as stated in a probable cause affidavit. Upon catching up with the speeding car, the trooper followed Edey as he turned eastbound on Tippecanoe County Road 700 South and eventually pulled over. Edey is scheduled for an initial hearing at 10:30 a.m. on Monday in Tippecanoe Superior 6, facing a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. The 23-year-old from Memphis claimed he was attempting to overtake another vehicle when questioned by the police. Edey departed Purdue as a renowned center and was later drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies after his standout performance in the NCAA championship game in 2024. A photo of Edey, along with other players and alumni, was shared by Purdue’s men’s basketball social media accounts from their time at Mackey on May 6.
