Golf superstars Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have experienced disappointment in the TGL playoffs as their respective teams, Jupiter Links GC and Boston Common Golf, have been knocked out of the inaugural season. Despite their efforts in founding the new part-virtual league, both Woods and McIlroy fell short in leading their teams to the final four. The Boston team, led by McIlroy, faced a crucial match against New York Golf Club to secure a spot in the playoffs but suffered a 10-6 defeat. New York’s Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler, and Xander Schauffele staged a remarkable comeback, scoring five points in the last four holes to secure victory. Despite a valiant effort by Boston needing two points on the final hole to force overtime, New York’s Schauffele clinched the win with a superb chip from seven feet. After the challenging start to the season, our goal was simply to make it to the playoffs, expressed New York’s Fowler in an interview with ESPN. Starting off 0-2, we had to dig deep and find our form, and fortunately, we are beginning to hit our stride at the right time. The outcome of this match means that Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links GC will not be able to qualify for the postseason ahead of their final regular-season clash against Atlanta Drive GC. As a result, New York will move on to face Los Angeles Golf Club, while The Bay Golf Club will take on Atlanta Drive in the semifinals. Scheduled to take place between March 17-18, the semifinal matches will set the stage for the final showdown the following week.
