ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Vladislav Goldin tallied 19 points and Nimari Burnett added 16 as No. 24 Michigan secured a 91-75 victory over Washington on Sunday. The Wolverines (13-3, 5-0 Big Ten) extended their winning streak to five games. Roddy Gayle Jr. contributed 15 points in his return to the lineup following a one-game absence due to a bruised knee sustained against USC.
After falling behind 5-4, Michigan took control with a layup by Tre Donaldson to claim the lead for good. The Wolverines stretched their lead to as much as 19 points in the second half. Great Osobor led Washington (10-7, 1-5) with 23 points, including 16 in the first half, while Zoom Diallo and Mekhi Mason each chipped in 13 points.
Washington struggled on the road once again, dropping to 0-4 away from home and suffering a third consecutive loss. Michigan’s victory marked their first five-game winning streak in Big Ten play since the 2020-21 season, improving their home record to 9-0 this season.
A pivotal moment in the game came as Michigan shut out Washington in the final 1:51 of the first half to seize a 38-28 halftime advantage. The Wolverines then established control early in the second half, leaning on their stout defense and sharp shooting to secure the win, connecting on seven of their first nine field goal attempts.
Michigan, boasting the nation’s top field goal percentage at 51.9%, continued their efficient shooting by hitting 52.7% of their shots against Washington. The Wolverines shot an impressive 58.6% from the field in the opening half.
Looking ahead, Washington will return home to face No. 20 Purdue on Wednesday night, while Michigan is set to visit Minnesota on Thursday night.
