Golden Globes 2025 Ratings Skyrocket to 10.1 Million Viewers, Paramount Reveals!

CBS aired the 82nd annual Golden Globes ceremony for the second consecutive year, attracting 10.1 million viewers on Sunday night, as reported by VideoAmp. Notably, this figure is sourced from VideoAmp rather than the industry standard, Nielsen, due to a contract dispute between CBS’ parent company, Paramount Global, and Nielsen.

Variety reported on some highlights of the event, including comedian Nikki Glaser’s cutting jokes that targeted various personalities, the desire of Golden Globes producers to have Glaser return as host in the future, and the emergence of Netflix’s “Emilia Pérez” as a strong contender for awards season recognition.

The 10.1 million viewership marks a 7% increase from the previous year’s show, which averaged 9.4 million viewers, as measured by Nielsen. Jo Koy hosted the 2024 ceremony, marking CBS’ first time airing the Golden Globes and achieving a 50% increase in viewership compared to NBC’s 2023 telecast. NBC’s 2023 viewership may have been impacted by the aftermath of scandals involving the now defunct Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which conducted the awards.

When considering livestreams on Paramount+ and the CBS app, viewership saw a 9% increase compared to the previous year, according to VideoAmp. The 2024 ceremony, airing from 5 p.m. to just past 8 p.m., benefited from an NFL lead-in following CBS’ broadcast of the Chiefs-Broncos game. However, it faced competition from NBC’s telecast of the Vikings-Lions game, which averaged 28.5 million viewers.

The 2025 Golden Globes were hosted by Nikki Glaser, who became the first solo female host of the event, receiving acclaim for her performance. Variety’s Araminde Tinubu praised Glaser’s energy and humor, highlighting her ability to bring the Globes back to a place of delight. Co-showrunner Glenn Weiss expressed confidence in Glaser’s hosting abilities, hinting at a possible return in the future.

The Golden Globes were produced by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss through their White Cherry Entertainment banner, with Dick Clark Productions, a joint venture between Variety parent company PMC and Eldridge, as the overall producer of the event.

In addition to the Golden Globes coverage, Variety also provided updates on new movie releases, upcoming content on Disney+ and Netflix, urging readers to sign up for the newsletter for the latest entertainment news across various platforms.
