Ghost Gun Seized in Capitol Hill Office Building Arrest!

A man from Maryland has been charged with attempting to bring an unregistered firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun,” into a House office building in Washington, D.C. last week. Jason White, 35, allegedly tried to pass through a security checkpoint at the Cannon House Office Building with the gun on June 24. The firearm was discovered when White placed his bag through a metal detector at the building’s entrance. The incident occurred while the House was in session, with lawmakers and staff arriving for committee hearings.

An affidavit shared with CBS News revealed that the firearm did not have a serial number, had a barrel length of less than 12 inches, and was fully functional. Ghost guns are typically assembled from kits at home, making them untraceable by law enforcement. White, who is not licensed to carry a gun in D.C. and has an expired permit for a firearm in Maryland, claimed that he had forgotten about the gun in his bag when he was arrested.

According to police records, there have been over 20 arrests for unlawful firearms possession on Capitol Hill this year, compared to 18 such arrests in all of 2023. White is now facing a felony charge, and his attorney declined to comment on the case to CBS News.
