A 17-year-old girl in Georgia has been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of her mother and stepfather nearly six months ago, law enforcement officials announced. Sarah Grace Patrick was arrested this week on two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault for the February 20 killings of Kristin Brock, 41, and James Brock, 45. Although minors charged with crimes are typically not named by USA TODAY, Patrick is being charged as an adult in this case, according to Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey.
Deputies responded to the scene on Carrollton Tyus Road on the morning of February 20, where they found the victims dead from gunshot wounds. The residence is located in Carrollton, approximately 45 miles west of Atlanta. At the time of the incident, the couple lived in the home with Patrick and a younger sibling, who was present during the slayings.
After a thorough investigation involving multiple agencies, Patrick was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault. A motive for the crime has not been determined. The suspect initially called 911 to report the deaths and later surrendered herself as a suspect in the double murder.
Patrick’s father brought her to the sheriff’s office on July 8 to surrender after learning about the warrant for her arrest. The case is still under investigation, and additional arrests may occur as new evidence emerges. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the Brock family and thanked the community for their support and perseverance in seeking justice.
Further details about the suspect’s custody, court appearance, and legal representation were not immediately available. The sheriff’s office can be contacted at 770-830-5935 with any information related to the case.
