Georgia QB Carson Beck Undergoes UCL Surgery, Out for Postseason!

Georgia’s starting quarterback, Carson Beck, will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing successful surgery to repair his UCL in his right elbow. The University of Georgia confirmed the news, stating that Beck is expected to make a full recovery but will be sidelined for the College Football Playoff.

Beck sustained the injury during the first half of Georgia’s victory over Texas in the SEC Championship game earlier this month. A hard hit to his arm by a Longhorns defender as he attempted a final throw before halftime resulted in the ball being dislodged and Beck experiencing significant pain on the field. Despite his absence in the second half, backup quarterback Gunner Stockton stepped in and guided the Bulldogs to an overtime triumph.

Following their SEC Championship win, Georgia secured a place in the College Football Playoff, earning an automatic bye to the Sugar Bowl where they are set to face Notre Dame on January 1st. Stockton is slated to assume the starting quarterback role for that pivotal matchup.

Reports indicate that Georgia had been preparing for the prospect of Beck’s absence in the playoffs since his injury, deeming his return as “unlikely.” Beck’s season stats include 3,485 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The impact of Beck’s injury on his pre-draft process remains uncertain. Notably absent from the first round of Yahoo Sports’ latest NFL mock draft, Beck’s draft stock could potentially rise if he demonstrates his throwing abilities prior to the April draft. However, the injury presents an added challenge that may affect his draft prospects significantly.

This article will be updated with further developments as they emerge.
