Women's No. 1 Swiatek eliminated, men's Djokovic in the quarterfinals!

At the US Open, the last grand slam tennis tournament of the season, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek was eliminated in women's singles, while world No. 2 Novak Djokovic reached the quarterfinals in men's singles.

The 7th day of the tournament held in New York City continued with 4th round matches in men's and women's singles.

In the women's singles, No. 20 seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia defeated Polish Swiatek, the defending champion of the tournament, 2-1 with sets of 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1, making a surprise and writing her name among the last 8 tennis players.

World No. 6 seed Coco Gauff of the USA beat Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, the 2009 and 2014 finalist, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1, while Czech No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova beat China's Xinyu Wang 2-1 in straight sets 6-3, 5-7 and 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals. World No. 30 Romanian Sorana Cirstea also advanced to the next round after beating Swiss Belinda Bencic, the world No. 15 seed, 2-0 in straight sets 6-3. Ostapenko and Gauff, Muchova and Cirstea will meet in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

DJOKOVIC IN THE QUARTERFINALS In the men's singles, Serbian Djokovic, aiming for the 24th grand slam title of his career, defeated Croatian Borna Gojo 3-0 in sets of 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 after 2 hours and 26 minutes of struggle and became one of the last 8 tennis players.

Three US tennis players advanced to the quarterfinals in the tournament. No. 9 seed Taylor Fritz beat Swiss Dominic Stricker 3-0 (7-6, 6-4, 6-4); No. 10 seed Frances Tiafoe beat Australian Rinky Hijikata 3-0 (6-4, 6-1, 6-4); and Ben Shelton beat No. 14 seed Tommy Paul 3-1 (6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4) 3-1. Djokovic and Fritz, Tiafoe and Shelton will compete in the quarterfinals.
