Dr. Raymond Omollo, Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, stated in a press statement that 120 people lost their lives in floods caused by heavy rains.

Omollo said, "Four regions including Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera are among the worst affected areas. Isiolo, Samburu, Kwale, Homabay, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Meru and Kisumu regions are in high risk areas."

'STAY AWAY' CALL Noting that 11 ministries are working jointly in the fight against the disaster, Omollo called on citizens to move away from flood areas.

A "state of emergency" was declared in Kenya due to the destruction caused by the disaster.

In the country where tens of thousands of people had to leave their homes, the government allocated a budget of 15 million dollars. Kenyans were warned by the authorities against excessive rainfall.

On the other hand, in neighboring Somalia, a "state of emergency" was declared in some regions after floods that claimed 96 lives.
