USDT issuer Tether announced that it has frozen the wallets of individuals sanctioned by the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

In its announcement, Tether explained that such a decision was taken to proactively prevent potential misuse of USDT tokens and to develop new security measures.
The company stated that a similar policy will be followed for wallets that OFAC will impose sanctions in the coming period.
Tether's move stood out as the most important move of the company's former CTO Paolo Ardoino since he became CEO. In a previous statement, Ardonio stated that their mission is to improve their relationship with regulators.
Tether has previously been reluctant to freeze wallets linked to Tornado Cash, which the US has sanctioned. The stablecoin issuer also froze Tornado Cash-linked wallets in its announcement today.
