Danielle Carr-Gomm, 71, paid $951 to attend Hongchi Xiao's workshop in the hope of finding a solution to her diabetes. In his workshops, Xiao applies a therapy method in which patients are repeatedly slapped or slapped themselves to remove toxins from the body.

Xiao bases this technique, which usually causes bruising or bleeding in patients, on Chinese medicine.

In England, 71-year-old Carr-Gomm was found dead in a hotel room 7 years ago. After the investigation, it was determined that the old woman attended Xiao's workshop before her death.

British police had requested Xiao's arrest for manslaughter by gross negligence in 2019 as part of the investigation into Carr-Gomm's death. Xiao, who is originally from China and runs the California-based Pailala Institute, was conducting paid workshops around the world.

Xiao, 60, will appear in court in Salisbury, south-west England. Carr-Gomm's son Matthew said Gomm was looking for "alternative methods to treat his diabetes" because he had difficulty injecting insulin. Xiao, who has not been in the UK for years, was recently extradited from Australia and detained.
