In the East African country of Kenya, President William Ruto announced the abolition of the visa application to enter the country on the 60th anniversary of independence from the UK. A ceremony was held at the Uhuru Gardens Memorial Park in the capital Nairobi, marking the 60th anniversary of the country's independence from Britain.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ruto announced that they abolished the visa requirement to enter the country as of 2024.

Calling on his citizens for "unity and solidarity" on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of independence, Ruto stated that the visa decision will be implemented as of 2024. Ruto said, "As of January 2024, Kenya will be a visa-free country. No longer will anyone from any corner of the world apply for a visa to come to Kenya."

At the African Climate Summit in Nairobi on September 4, Ruto announced that they would introduce visa liberalization for entry into Kenya. "Jamhuri Day", which means "republic" in Swahili, marks Kenya's independence on December 12, 1963.
