British crocodile expert Adam Britton appeared before the judge in the case where he was arrested for allegedly sexually abusing dogs. Britton pleaded guilty to the charge.

DETAILS TOO HORRIFIC TO PUBLISH According to the BBC, a hearing in Australia's Northern Territory (NT) Supreme Court on Monday, September 25, heard that Britton tortured dozens of dogs until almost all of them died, then uploaded the torture footage to the internet, where he also accessed child abuse content. Many details of Britton's crimes, who previously worked for the BBC and National Geographic, were said to be 'too horrific to publish'; the judge asked the audience to leave the courtroom. Presiding Judge Michael Grant emphasized that hearing about the events of the case could cause nervous shock. It was then announced that security guards and lower court officials could leave the courtroom.

'HE HAS HAD A SADISTIC SEXUAL INTEREST IN ANIMALS SINCE 2014' Prosecutors told the court that Britton had a 'sadistic sexual interest' in animals since at least 2014, abusing his own pets as well as manipulating others into abusing theirs.

Britton also allegedly used the online platform Gumtree Australia, where people were often reluctant to give up their pets for work or travel. When owners reached out to Britton and inquired about the condition of their animals, Britton would tell them fabricated stories and send them old photos. In the meantime, Britton reportedly abused the animals in a shipping container on his property, which was also equipped with audio and video recording equipment. These images were then shared online under false names.

VERDICT HEARING IN DECEMBER A video of 51-year-old zoologist Dr. Britton was forwarded to the state police, who arrested Britton in April 2022. In the 18 months prior to his arrest, Britton had sexually abused 42 dogs, 39 of whom died. Britton, who is on remand, will be sentenced at a hearing in December. Britton, who was born in England and specialized in crocodiles in Australia, also worked at Charles Darwin University.
