Earthquake warning systems detect P-waves when an earthquake starts and quickly calculate when S-waves will arrive. This prediction depends on the distance from the center of the earthquake. If users receive a notification alert just before the S waves arrive, they can get to safety. Here are ways to use Google's earthquake warning system.

The earthquake warning system is done through the phone's "location" settings. The Android operating system does not promise that it will detect every earthquake with this application. The phones warn of earthquakes of 4.5 magnitude and above that occur in your immediate vicinity.
