The unnamed Vietnamese man was rushed to the hospital emergency room after experiencing severe headaches, runny nose and even loss of vision. Doctors asked the 35-year-old man if he had any indication of what might be causing his symptoms, but he did not expect this result.

Staff at the Cuban Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi, Quang Binh province, performed a brain scan to get to the bottom of the problem.

The doctors were stunned by the results.

They did not realize he was suffering from tension pneumocephalus, an unusual but life-threatening emergency condition normally caused by head trauma.

But when he was examined on November 24, experts discovered broken chopsticks that had entered his skull through his nose.
