Former US Ambassador to Bolivia Manuel Rocha has been detained in Miami on charges of 'spying for Cuba'. Rocha, 73, was detained as part of a long-running 'counterintelligence' investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Rocha is accused of 'working to promote the interests of the Cuban government,' sources told the Associated Press. The first hearing will be held today, the sources said, adding that more details about the case are expected to be made public.

Rocha's 25-year diplomatic career was spent under both Democratic and Republican administrations. The former diplomat was also in Latin America during the Cold War

Rocha also served in Italy, Honduras, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and worked as a Latin America expert at the National Security Council.
