Around 200 dog breeders, restaurant owners and workers in the dog meat industry in South Korea gathered in front of the presidential building to oppose the government's and ruling party members' bill to ban the consumption of dog meat earlier this month.

The protesters chanted, "We will fight!"

Former Dog Breeders Association President Ju Yeongbong said in his speech that most of the people working in this field are 60-70 years old, that these people are not looking for new professions, and that dog meat production is a line of business that will disappear in 15-20 years as only a small number of young South Koreans consume it.

It was reported that the police detained 3 people in the brawl that broke out during the protest.

The protesters demanded the government to extend the period before the ban and financial support.
