The newborn baby girl of Gopal Bhattacharya, a police officer in India, and his wife Sarju Devi was born with 26 fingers and toes. The baby girl was born with seven fingers on each hand and six fingers on each foot. The family has a different opinion about the baby born with such an anomaly. The family believes that she is the reincarnation of a Hindu goddess. The little girl may have four extra fingers and two extra toes compared to most children, but the doctor at the hospital where she was born said she was healthy.

Dr. BS Soni said "There is nothing wrong with having 26 fingers, but it is a genetic anomaly. The girl is otherwise quite healthy." Medical experts report that the baby's extra fingers and toes are caused by a rare genetic anomaly. The condition is called polydactyly online. It is a condition in which a person is born with extra fingers and toes. It is not yet clear whether the family is willing to undergo surgery to remove the girl's extra fingers.

The baby's uncle told local media: "My sister gave birth to a baby with 26 fingers and we think it is the reincarnation of Dholagarh Devi." A Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess Dholagarh Devi is located in Bahtoo Kalan in Baharatpur, close to where the baby girl was born. Statues of the goddess show a young girl with several arms.
