Fresno Zoo Unveils Adorable Lion Cubs to Public for the First Time!

Forget Simba and Nala because there are new lion cubs stealing the show! You don’t have to travel all the way to Africa to meet them. You can meet these adorable lion cubs at Chaffee Zoo in Fresno, CA for the price of admission. Zamaya, the zoo’s lioness, gave birth to a healthy boy named Taraj and a girl named Asali in November. The cubs have been growing behind the scenes and made their public debut last week, to the delight of fans. Asali and Taraj are now four months old and are ready to charm visitors with their cuteness, under the watchful eye of their mother Zamaya. The community even helped name Taraj, which means “hope and faith” in Swahili, while Asali means “honey.” This lion family now resides at the Lion Habitat in the zoo’s African Adventure exhibit. Though the cubs still have a lot of growing to do, they are enjoying their time playing, wrestling, and napping—lots of napping! So, don’t be surprised if you catch them snoozing during your visit. These adorable cubs have a bright future ahead, and we’ll be here to cheer them on every step of the way!
