Charleston International Airport recorded 1.99 inches of rain between midnight and 5 a.m. ET, breaking the previous May 11 record set in 1952. Downtown Charleston also saw record-breaking rainfall of 2.06 inches during the same period, surpassing a record set in 1899.
The National Weather Service has issued a Level 2 flood threat for millions of residents in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic on both Sunday and Monday. The Northeast anticipates more rain in the upcoming week, with a new wet weather system expected to move across the mid-Atlantic and northeast regions by midweek.
The South is bracing for a significant shift in weather patterns, with Central Texas potentially experiencing record-breaking heat in the coming days. Major cities like Austin and San Antonio may see temperatures reaching into the triple digits, setting the stage for a scorching week ahead.
A heightened risk of severe weather looms over the Midwest and Ohio Valley, following a series of deadly storms and flooding incidents. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued an early severe weather outlook for Thursday, affecting nearly 30 million people in Level 2 threat areas, including cities like Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and Milwaukee.
As we approach the official start of hurricane season in the Eastern Pacific and Atlantic basins, meteorologists are closely monitoring potential tropical developments. While current forecasts suggest no immediate threat of tropical cyclone formation in the basins over the next week or possibly the entire month of May, some computer models hint at favorable conditions for storm development in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
Stay tuned for further updates as we keep a close eye on weather patterns across the country.
A video captured in Florida on Saturday shows a waterspout moving from the Gulf onto the beach amid severe weather in the region.
