Four individuals have been apprehended in connection with a tragic mass shooting that occurred at Young Park in Las Cruces, New Mexico on Friday night. The incident resulted in the loss of three teenage lives and left 15 others wounded. Tomas Rivas, aged 20, and two 17-year-old boys were taken into custody on Saturday, with an additional 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy arrested on Sunday. The 15-year-old suspect has been charged with three counts of murder, while all four individuals are facing pending charges.
Rivas is currently detained at the Dona Ana County Detention Center without bond, while the three teenagers are being held in the juvenile section of the facility. The identities of the injured victims, ranging from 16 to 36 years old, have not been disclosed. An investigation is ongoing, following the 53rd mass shooting of 2025 as reported by the Gun Violence Archive.
The shooting occurred after an altercation between two groups during an “unsanctioned car show” at Young Park. Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez has urged the community to come together and support those affected by the tragic event. A fundraiser has been set up by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico to assist the victims and their families.
The park remains closed as authorities continue their investigation. Las Cruces is located near the US-Mexico border, and the community is mourning the loss of the young lives in this senseless act of violence.
