The tragic incident involving the fatal attack on teenager Morgan Dorsett has raised concerns regarding the dangers posed by XL Bullies. The autopsy report confirmed that the dog responsible for the fatal attack was indeed an XL Bully. Morgan Dorsett, a 19-year-old resident of Shropshire, tragically succumbed to her injuries inside a flat located on Cobhorn Drive in the Hartcliffe area of Bristol. The incident occurred at approximately 19:00 GMT on 26 February.
Following the devastating attack, Avon and Somerset Police took swift action. The dog was sedated at the scene and subsequently euthanized. Moreover, a man and a woman, both in their 20s, were placed under conditional bail after being arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited breed of dog. They were also apprehended on charges of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, resulting in injury and ultimately leading to the death of the victim.
The government’s ban on XL Bullies in 2023 underscores the serious risks associated with this breed, as they have been disproportionately involved in fatal incidents. Descriptions of the dog provided by neighbors include it as being “big, butch, and brown and white” in color. Another neighbor revealed that the teenager had only recently moved into the property before the tragic incident occurred.
During a press conference, Insp Terry Murphy from Avon and Somerset Police emphasized the rarity of such events and assured that a thorough investigation is underway to ascertain all the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The community has come together to support the grieving family by organizing a fundraiser to assist with the funeral costs, raising nearly £7,000 in just three days.
