One individual lost their life and two others were reportedly injured due to a lightning strike in Florida. A 29-year-old man from Colorado passed away after being struck by lightning while standing in ankle-deep water in New Smyrna Beach, Volusia County, on June 20. Despite immediate CPR and life-saving efforts, the man could not be revived and was transported from the scene unresponsive. He was identified as Jake A. Rosencranz, marking Florida’s first lightning fatality of the year.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood shared on Facebook that the man was with his wife, visiting the beach to celebrate their marriage when tragedy struck. In a separate incident on the same day, two individuals were indirectly struck by lightning while golfing at Venetian Bay golf course. Fortunately, they did not require emergency transport to the hospital.
