The FBI disclosed on Friday that the Cybertruck bombing outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day is believed to have been carried out by a veteran struggling with PTSD and other issues. Spencer Evans, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas office, revealed during a news conference that there is no indication linking Wednesday’s bombing to the earlier terror attack in New Orleans.
Evans stated, “The only things that we have connecting them are incidental, what we believe to be coincidental, similarities.” These similarities include the vehicles being rented through the same service, both perpetrators having military backgrounds, and both individuals staying at an Airbnb. He emphasized that there is no evidence of any communication between the individuals, no indication that they knew each other, were part of the same unit, or shared any interactions.
The driver of the Cybertruck was identified by the police as Matthew Alan Livelsberger, a 37-year-old active duty member of the Army Special Forces. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Livelsberger shot himself in the head before the bombing took place. Evans clarified that there is no known connection between Livelsberger and any terrorist organization.
Despite the location of the bombing outside a Trump hotel, Evans stated that Livelsberger did not harbor any hostility toward President-elect Donald Trump. Livelsberger had rented the Cybertruck in Denver, according to Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department.
