A Missouri father, who reported that his child was a victim of statutory rape, was allegedly offered a substantial sum of money to halt his involvement in the investigation. After rejecting the bribe, the father was tragically killed in his own home. On the same day, the suspected murderer was also found dead.
The case originated in March when prosecutors in Missouri accused Lavon Harmon of engaging in sexual relations with a teenager. Subsequent events took a disturbing turn when Lavon’s sister, Lavonda Harmon, along with an unidentified man, visited the father’s home in May and offered him $12,000 to cease cooperation with the ongoing investigation involving Lavon, who had not yet been formally charged. Despite the pressure, the father stood firm and declined the alleged bribe.
In a shocking turn of events on July 8, an individual visited the father’s residence and fatally shot him while the alleged victim of statutory rape and another minor were present. The perpetrator fled in a white Kia, and later that day, the same individual was discovered deceased in St. Louis, with the car found burnt nearby.
Lavonda Harmon, a resident of Houston, Texas, has since been charged with tampering with a witness in a felony prosecution. Lavon Harmon faces multiple counts of second-degree statutory sodomy and statutory rape. Their current legal standing regarding the charges remains unclear. Lavon Harmon’s bond has been set at $2 million.
Prosecutors have emphasized the concerning nature of the case, stating that investigations have uncovered criminal activities involving the defendant, his family, and associates, posing a significant risk to the victim and the community.
