**Tragic Loss of American Teen in West Bank Conflict**
The funeral for 14-year-old Palestinian-American Amir Mohammed Rabee took place on Monday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank following his tragic shooting the day before. Hailing from New Jersey, Amir was a dual national who lost his life in the incident. Two other teenage boys, one of whom is also a U.S. citizen as per his family, were also injured in the shooting but survived.
Amir’s father shared with CBS News that while his son’s siblings reside in the U.S., Amir and his parents were living in Turmus Ayya in the central West Bank where he was attending school. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that their soldiers had encountered three individuals throwing rocks towards a highway, endangering passing civilians. In response, the soldiers fired at the individuals, neutralizing one and injuring the other two.
At the funeral near Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, mourners solemnly carried the body of 14-year-old Palestinian-American Amir Mohammad Rabee. Amir’s father disputed the IDF’s video evidence, asserting that his son’s presence in the footage could not be confirmed. He criticized the U.S. embassy for accepting the Israeli military’s account based on what he deemed to be an inconclusive video.
The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem redirected inquiries to the U.S. State Department, which expressed condolences to the family while acknowledging the IDF’s statement. The State Department refrained from further comments out of respect for the family’s privacy. Rabee’s father described the injuries sustained by his son, alleging that Amir had been shot multiple times with different firearms, characterizing the incident as a “field execution.”
In the aftermath of the tragedy, one of the other wounded teenagers, Asad Ayub Ahed, also a 14-year-old U.S. national, remained hospitalized in serious condition. This incident unfolded as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Washington for a meeting with President Trump, prompting calls from Rabee’s father to urge an end to the violence and weapons supply in the region.
This heartbreaking event echoes a similar tragedy involving another American, U.S.-Turkish dual national Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who lost her life in the West Bank in September under disputed circumstances. Witnesses and Eygi’s family claimed she was fatally shot by an Israeli sniper during a protest in Nablus, an account that diverged from the IDF’s initial findings.
“Nationally, she was hit by IDF fire that was not intended for her,” states the report with contributions from Saed Hawari and Omar Abdulkader.
