Three individuals lost their lives and 15 others sustained injuries during a violent clash between two rival factions at an unauthorized car exhibition in New Mexico. The unfortunate incident occurred at Young Park in Las Cruces around 10:00 PM local time on Friday. The Las Cruces Police Department revealed that four individuals, including a 15-year-old, have been arrested and charged in connection with the three fatalities. Among the deceased were two 19-year-old males and a 16-year-old male. Law enforcement stated that two 17-year-old youths, a 15-year-old, and a 20-year-old man were apprehended and faced charges. Police Chief Jeremy Story disclosed that a confrontation between the groups escalated into gunfire, resulting in casualties and injuries. He emphasized that tensions between the groups had been mounting prior to the car show. Approximately 50 to 60 shell casings from handguns were discovered at the scene, indicating the scale of the crime. Witnesses and any available footage of the incident have been urged to assist in the investigation. The victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, ranged in age from 16 to 36. Several injured parties were transported to El Paso, Texas, for additional medical care. Mayor Eric Enriquez expressed sorrow and condemned the violence, pledging to enhance community safety measures. The authorities responded promptly to reports of gunfire, with bystanders and emergency responders providing initial aid to the victims. The event, which catered to enthusiasts of modified sports cars, has drawn attention as similar gatherings have led to security concerns. The presence of firearms at the car show has raised debates regarding gun regulations in the US. New Mexico allows open carry of firearms in public without a permit, although concealed carry requires authorization. The legal status of the weapons involved in the shooting has not been disclosed. Police stressed the need for upholding the rule of law in the aftermath of the senseless act of violence.
