Fatal Error: Gunman’s Oversight Leads to Capture in Shooting of Lawyer

A man with mental health issues was taken into custody for allegedly shooting his lawyer brother — after boldly returning to the crime scene with their distraught parents, according to police. Christopher Eaves, 49, is accused of firing at his 51-year-old brother, James “Artie” Eaves, in the driveway of the victim’s Phoenix residence before fleeing and leaving him to die last Friday, as reported by True Crime Arizona. The well-known defense attorney was discovered face-down in a pool of blood after a witness saw a white BMW speeding away from the area right after the gunshots. The witness, who noted the driver as a bald or short-haired male, managed to record the license plate, which authorities quickly linked to the younger sibling. Eaves returned to his parents’ house, where he lives, after they informed him about a tragic incident at Artie’s place, according to the police report. He expressed a desire to accompany his parents to the scene to see what had occurred. Footage from a local TV station captured Eaves being arrested upon his return to the scene with his parents. Police later discovered firearms in Eaves’ vehicle, as well as a gun on his nightstand that matched the shell casings at the crime scene. Eaves’ parents later disclosed to authorities that the suspect had been grappling with mental health issues. Eaves faces charges of first-degree murder and burglary for the killing. He is currently held on a $1.5 million cash bond.
