Following an active weather pattern nationwide this past weekend, AccuWeather meteorologists are cautioning that another storm is approaching for the upcoming week. This storm is expected to bring snow, blustery winds, and even the possibility of severe thunderstorms. The storm’s energy made landfall on the West Coast on Monday, bringing steady rain, coastal winds, and high-elevation snow. Rain and snow spread inland through Monday night, creating hazardous travel conditions in the Intermountain West. As the storm moves over the Rocky Mountains on Tuesday night, heavy snow is forecasted for Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Colorado, with the highest amounts expected in Colorado and Wyoming. Snowfall totals of 3-6 inches are expected, with localized amounts of 6-12 inches possible in parts of Iowa and Wisconsin. Some areas in eastern Colorado and the Central Plains will experience warm temperatures ahead of the storm. Gusty winds will also be a significant factor, with the possibility of blizzard conditions in some areas as the storm progresses through the week.

In the Southern Central states, a combination of strong winds, dry conditions, and low humidity levels will create a heightened fire risk through Tuesday, especially across eastern New Mexico and West Texas. The experts at AccuWeather.com caution residents to refrain from outdoor burning and to remain vigilant against any potential fire sources, as any fires that ignite could quickly spread.
On the warm side of the storm, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms. Recent intense storm activity last week and over the weekend caused significant damage in the Central and Southeastern states, with at least 40 fatalities reported. While the risk into midweek is not expected to match the recent destruction, forecasters advise that storms developing on Tuesday night could still bring heavy downpours and hail as they move through parts of the central Plains.
The risk of severe weather will expand on Wednesday, stretching from the Great Lakes to almost the northern Gulf shores.
