“Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links.” This is not your typical lanai—it’s a modern twist that even your grandma would enjoy, especially if she’s flaunting a silk caftan and dazzling poolside jewels on TikTok. The combination of red striped umbrellas, pink lampshades, and elegant seafoam chaises evokes a vibe reminiscent of Slim Aarons (but with a touch of luxury) in this inviting veranda crafted by Tate Casper and Jordan Winston from Oxford Design in Tampa for this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach.
“We aimed to capture the vibrant colors synonymous with Palm Beach,” explains Casper. To ensure that this partially covered outdoor space seamlessly blends with the home’s interiors—rather than just being a passageway to the pool—Casper and Winston incorporated architectural elements such as fluted columns and ornate wrought-iron doorways.
Dramatic, tassel-trimmed striped draperies elegantly frame the entrances, with luxurious fabrics softening the exterior brickwork and creating cozy seating nooks. An array of antiques and vintage pieces mingle with strategically placed seating areas designed for easy conversation. The ceiling, painted in Benjamin Moore’s Kennebunkport Green, establishes a harmonious link with the enchanting garden outside. The duo curated furnishings and decor from McKinnon & Harris, Vaughan, and Casa Gusto, and enlisted Billy Baldwin Studio to create the skirted banquette.
A baker’s rack adorned with potted plants from Chairish adds a touch of freshness, while modern wall sconces by Hector Finch inject a contemporary flair into the design. And who could resist the vibrant red, resort-style umbrellas that whisk guests away to the Amalfi Coast? “The colors exude vibrancy, joy, and cheerfulness,” notes Winston, “infusing the space with a perpetual sense of festivity, no matter the season.”
